What is Spravato?

Spravato (esketamine) is a prescription nasal spray that offers a breakthrough approach in the treatment of depression, specifically for individuals with treatment-resistant depression or depression that causes suicidal ideations. It is a novel medication that works differently from traditional antidepressants, providing a fast-acting alternative for patients who have not found relief from standard therapies.

What Mental Health Conditions Do We Address?

At Phoenix Mental Health, we leverage our extensive training and expertise to provide top-notch solutions for various mental health issues. While our primary focus is on treating Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and ADHD/ADD, our skilled team is also equipped to manage and treat other complex conditions such as Schizophrenia, PTSD, and OCD. We offer our services to patients of all ages.

Who should consider Spravato treatment?

Spravato is indicated for adults with treatment-resistant depression (TRD), which means individuals who have not responded adequately to at least two different antidepressant medications. In addition, Spravato has shown significant benefit in the treatment of individuals with major depressive disorder (MDD) who are also experiencing active suicidal ideation or behavior. Most major commercial insurance companies, Medicare, and Medicaid will help cover Spravato treatments for individuals suffering from either of the above mental health issues.

What Happens During a Spravato Visit?

Spravato treatment sessions must take place in a healthcare setting due to the need for clinical monitoring. Our clinic is a registered treatment center! The treatment involves the patient administering the nasal spray under the supervision of a healthcare provider. After the dose is administered, patients are closely monitored for side effects for up to two hours, ensuring safety and comfort during the process. This supervision is crucial because Spravato can cause temporary changes in blood pressure, drowsiness, or dizziness. The good news, however, is that these side effects are likely to resolve by the end of the two-hour treatment session—giving our patients the comfort and confidence to return home safely.

How Can Spravato Help in Depression?

Spravato offers a unique mechanism of action, targeting the NMDA receptors in the brain, which are involved in mood regulation. By modulating these receptors, Spravato can provide rapid relief from depressive symptoms, sometimes within hours of administration. This makes it a valuable option for those who have struggled with chronic depression or who need urgent relief from severe symptoms, such as suicidal thoughts.

With its fast-acting and novel approach, Spravato is transforming the way healthcare professionals treat depression, offering renewed hope for patients who have not responded to other medications.

If you or a loved one is suffering from depression and/or suicidal ideations and have not found adequate relief from your daily oral antidepressants, please contact us today! There is hope in the battle against depression. And you don’t have to battle alone.

Phoenix Mental Health - Concierge

The Phoenix Mental Health Concierge is our private pay service, freeing our providers from insurance constraints, and allowing for more services such as:  personalized attention, quicker responses, and more frequent visits as needed. Concierge medicine’s growing popularity stems from the enhanced interaction and extended time between providers and patients. We’ll discuss the options and pricing with you if you’re interested in this approach.

Phoenix Mental Health - insured care

As previously mentioned, Phoenix Mental Health now supports all major insurance carriers, including Medicare, for our Spravato services. We recognize that not everyone can afford private payments for mental health treatments, but that shouldn’t compromise the quality of care received. However, due to insurance network constraints in mental health care, this option might involve shorter visits and potentially longer waiting periods.
